Fame and fortune open many doors, but few flex harder than owning a private island. These stars traded hotel rooms for their own slice of paradise, complete with white sand beaches and total privacy.

If you have ever dreamed of completely escaping the world, you’re not alone. Many celebrities have chosen to step away from the spotlight for various reasons, finding solace in isolation and pursuing personal fulfillment.

Johnny Depp’s solar-powered Bahamas retreat

Johnny Depp purchased Little Hall’s Pond Cay in the Bahamas in 2004. The 45-acre island cost him around $3.6 million. He was inspired by the location while filming the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie on nearby shores.

The island runs entirely on solar power and sits inside the Exuma Land and Sea Park. Depp named each of the six white sand beaches after special people in his life, including his children Lily-Rose and Jack.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s Eco Island in Belize

Leonardo DiCaprio bought Blackadore Caye in Belize in 2005 for $1.75 million. The 104-acre island sits near the famous Belize Barrier Reef. DiCaprio partnered with developer Jeff Gram on the purchase during a scuba diving vacation.

DiCaprio announced plans in 2015 to transform it into the world’s first restorative eco-resort. The project has faced significant delays but remains an ambitious vision powered entirely by renewable energy sources.

Beyonce and Jay-Z’s Bahamian empire

Power couple Beyonce and Jay-Z own two private islands in the Bahamas. Jay-Z purchased Strangers Cay in North Abaco for around $3 million in 2013. The sprawling 360-acre island is covered with lush greenery and offers snorkeling in crystal clear water.

The couple also owns a second island off the Florida Keys. They keep the exact details private but have built a luxury mansion on Strangers Cay for exclusive family getaways away from public attention.

Tyler Perry’s balinese Island dream

Tyler Perry bought White Bay Cay in the Bahamas in 2009 to mark his 40th birthday. He reportedly paid around $6.4 million for the 25-acre island in the Exumas. The island was completely undeveloped when he first acquired it.

Perry quickly transformed White Bay Cay into a stunning retreat. He built a 14,000-square-foot Balinese-inspired mansion along with a full-service spa, private marina, and guest bungalows for visiting friends and family.

Richard Branson’s legendary Necker Island

Richard Branson bought Necker Island in the British Virgin Islands back in 1978 for just $180,000. The 74-acre island is now estimated to be worth around $100 million. Branson rents it out for exclusive stays and private events around the world.

Famous guests have included Barack Obama, Mariah Carey, Harry Styles, and several members of the British royal family. Branson rebuilt the main mansion after a devastating fire destroyed it in 2011 during a lightning storm.

Bear Grylls and his rugged Welsh Island

Bear Grylls, the famous survivalist and TV host, owns Saint Tudwal’s Island West off the coast of North Wales. He purchased it in 2001 for approximately $129,000, making it one of the most affordable celebrity island purchases ever recorded.

The island has dramatic sea cliffs and no road access whatsoever. Getting there requires a boat and favorable weather. Grylls has called it his favorite place on the planet in multiple magazine interviews over the years.

Mel Gibson’s massive Fiji Island

Mel Gibson owns Mago Island in Fiji, one of the largest privately owned islands in the entire Pacific Ocean. The island spans an impressive 22 square kilometers of lush tropical land surrounded by the warm South Pacific waters.

Mago Island remains largely undeveloped, with just a few caretakers on site. Gibson purchased it from Japan’s Tokyu Corporation in 2005 for $15 million and has committed to preserving its natural environment rather than building a lavish resort.

Country music stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill own Goat Cay, a private island in the Exuma area of the Bahamas. McGraw refers to the island lovingly as the Isle of Angeles and it stretches across roughly 20 acres of lush Bahamian landscape.

The island features two beaches and is laced with nature trails perfect for outdoor exploration. The couple retreats there when they want total peace and quiet away from the constant demands of their music careers and public lives.

David Copperfield’s magic Island resort

Magician David Copperfield purchased Musha Cay and surrounding islands in the Bahamas in 2006 for an astonishing $50 million. The property includes 11 private islands and spans over 700 acres of stunning Caribbean landscape and turquoise water.

Musha Cay operates as an ultra-exclusive resort starting at $57,000 per night to rent out entirely. Guests enjoy private beach theaters, treasure hunts, and Copperfield’s signature magic. The experience is widely regarded as one of the world’s most unique luxury stays.

Eddie Murphy’s Nassau neighbor

Comedian and actor Eddie Murphy purchased Rooster Cay, also known as Long Cay, in the Bahamas in 2007. He paid $15 million for the 15-acre island, which sits just five minutes by boat from the Bahamian capital Nassau.

The island is off-limits to the general public and serves as Murphy’s private tropical escape. It is now estimated to be worth over $19 million. Murphy chose this location partly because of its easy access from the Bahamas main hub.
